With great appreciation for the No Agenda Show for their inspiration of ideas and the occasional stolen sound clip.
This is a value for value show and I look forward to everyone providing some value back.
Before I get started, you will want to hang around to the end of the show for our Q & A segment with Amber…. and to those listening on the podcast, you may want to check out the YouTube version which has some great discussions before the show starts…

Ambers' Rant:
This is #29 of 52 episodes for 2021. Its Episode 521! 521 = 8, so I suppose this is the eternal, never ending episode! Kinda like that old Lamb Chop's song – you know, I don't think my kids ever even watched that show, and yet they learned the never ending song… I suppose anything that annoying never really leaves, even when the origin of it is lost.
If you find yourself needing to get away from your own kids singing ‘the song that goes on and on', you can always go outside for a walk! Nice short (or long) jaunt, or simply grab some lunch and go sit out in the sunshine! It's great for your entire self to just sit and soak up vitamin D for a little while – a little goes a long way with Vitamin D.
And remember, while escaping the Lamb Chop's song, or whatever else is stuck in your kids head today, don't let that social media/news wreck your time out! Turn that stuff off for at least an hour a day. It will help with your brain meats in chillaxing, and give you the ability to enter into the fray of random songs via kids again with total cool!
Rinse and repeat as often as needed.
We have some news from the world of WordPress for you today as well as some great plugins.
News this week:
WordPress 5.8 was released on July 20th! The only thing I really found on it was from WP Tavern, and they are talking about the Introduction of Block Widgets, Duotone Media Filters, New Emoji Support, and More. This article tells you the names of the ‘release squad members', shows you a little on the developers theme.json support, and talks a lot about the seemingly favourite aspects of this newest release.
Tips Tuesday with MayAnna – covering E-comm masterminds in the BB Hub, theme speed and SEO testing, why updating to the WP 5.8 the day it's released is not a great idea and more!
Google's FLoC Origin Trial is over – and they do not intend to share the feedback from the participants. They are stating that the information will be provided in the next version – go and check out the article to find out more!
Microsoft just blew up the only reason you can't use a Linux Desktop – Microsoft just announced that with the release of Windows 365, there will be a new service built in where every programme, app, desktop, data, and settings will be accessible via Linux, Mac, iPad, Linux, and Android. This is going to be done through Cloud PC – soooo… this should be pretty amazing! Right? I foresee issues honestly… but still pretty cool!
MosaicLoader the new malware delivered through adverts in search results – is detailed by cybersecurity company Bitdefender, the malware (targeting windows) has been found as being delivered through adverts showing up in search results. MosaicLoader is being used as a gateway to stealing passwords, installing cryptocurrency, and delivering additional trojan malware.
HP finally patches 16 year old vulnerable drive – This vulnerability has been lurking in the drive for 16 years! The issue was described as a ‘potential buffer overflow in the software drivers for certain HP LaserJet products and Samsumg product printers could lead to an escalation of privilege'. Well, they fixed it (finally!), and now we the general public are aware it was there. I wonder what else is lurking….
This is the extra news stuff that someone out there might find interesting. To read more, you can head on over to the show notes or newsletter and check it out! If you find something to add for next show, send me a link at amber@wppro.ca
The extras – for even more extra news, check out our Facebook, or Twitter page!
WordPress 5.8 change to Media Library – This looks to be an awesome change coming up! They have added a ‘copy-to-clipboard' for the URL of the image right where you are loading it! Soon as the picture is uploaded, you can copy the URL, no need to leave the page to track down the URL anymore! There are a few other additional changes, such as the dropping of the infinite scroll and replacing with Ajax Button, and WebP Image Format Support – go and check this article out to learn more!
Makers of TinyMCE acquire Setka – Setka is a content design and editing platform. Tiny will hopefully do well by them and build on it, rather than separately from it. They suggest as much in the article that they are looking to integrate and expand.
BuddyPress 9.0.0 Transforms Legacy Widgets into blocks – This could be very handy! With 2 clicks, the legacy widgets become blocks, and all the settings are kept!!
https://elementor.com/pages/elementor-3-3/ – Elementor has come out with the ability to make your own website kits – and the way they present this awesome feature is just cool! Just keep scrolling down, and you will see what I mean. Also, this newer feature is pretty awesome.
A basic ‘how-to' on resolving conflict in your team – This could be useful for people who need to resolve some issues bubbling up within their teams over the last little while, but are unsure on how to go about it.
Automattic now owns Pocket Casts – Automattic has acquired this popular podcast app. Hopefully they won't drive it into the ground, we shall see what happens down the road!
Boris with TNW – This is one of the tech guys I get newsletters from, and he made a good point about work life being part and parcel with regular life. I found it to be thought invoking and thought I would share.
17 WordPress features not well known – I know that there were at least 6 in there that I didn't know about!! Sooooo trying these out!!
Good tips on how to keep your client feedback in check – while simultaneously protecting your WordPress business. Great read, has some tips I hadn't come across before.
Bigger than Raspberry Pi, but way more powerful! – also more expensive!! Check out the article if this is the kind of thing that is right up your alley!

ClassicPress Options
ClassicPress is growing really well, but I just don't have the time to add reviews on ClassicPress myself. I am always open to reviews sent in by listeners; though unless there is a review sent into me on ClassicPress, I am not going to do more than mention that ClassicPress is a thing, and here are some resources. I hope some listeners out there find this information useful!
One thing I am looking forward to in the ClassicPress World is the expansion of the number of ClassicPress specific plugins and their own repository. There are a few plugins specifically for ClassicPress and all plugins for WordPress 4.9.9 work well on it. I do believe it has a future, I just have not time to help them in getting it out there.
ClassicPress Resources:
The First Release Candidate for ClassicPress 1.3.0 is available!

Happy Testing!

John's Plugin
Perfmatters
The Lowdown:
This is a very affordable premium plugin to help speedup your site. It is easy to get installed and setup and it does appear to speed up the site I installed it on. Tests so far have shown a good 1 to 2 second increase in speed on the site.
This is one you will want to check out

Amber's Plugin
Text Scrambler for Elementor
https://wordpress.org/plugins/text-scrambler-for-elementor/
The Lowdown:
Really Cool plugin!! I could probably sit and play with this all day!
Once you download the plugin, it adds an app for Elementor simply called ‘Text Scrambler'.
You have two lines where you can add whatever you want, and the widget will flip between the two (or 3, or 4, or 10!) lines you wrote down. You can speed up or slow down the scrambled text that happens before it shows you whatever words you wrote.
It looks really cool! Definitely want to slow it down A LOT in order to have it look as good as what they show on the plugin page there though. This thing moves FAST!
Loads of fun, go and check this free text scrambler plugin for Elementor out!

Maintenance alerts
https://wordpress.org/plugins/maintenance-alerts/
The Lowdown:
If you would like to notify your visitors of upcoming updates and times the site will be down, this is a plugin for you. It lets you put a message bar at the top of the page to let your visitors know. It could also be used for other types of messages as needed.

Amber's plugin
KVoucher
https://wordpress.org/plugins/kvoucher/
PLUGIN HAS SINCE BEEN REMOVED – WORDPRESS NOTICE STATES:
This plugin has been closed as of April 26, 2022 and is not available for download. Reason: Security Issue.
The Lowdown:
I'm not overly crazy about this plugin – in setting it up and playing around with this voucher plugin, I realized that in order to really do more than add your business information you will need to upgrade.
I think that the value of this voucher is added in a tax percent – which I haven't ever seen before. I've only ever seen the dollar amount – though considering the first option for the currency is Euro, perhaps that is how it is done over in the EU.
The way that the voucher looks is not overwhelming, unless you upgrade, and you aren't able to access your customer option unless you upgrade.
For a new plugin, they seem really eager for you to upgrade!
Not a terrible plugin, though as I said, I wasn't really overly crazy about this plugin. It will work if you need a voucher plugin for free immediately though.

John's plugin
BibleGet I/O
https://wordpress.org/plugins/bibleget-io/
The Lowdown:
If you have a need like the Tavern does for a weekly Bible quote then this is a plugin for you. Simply set it up then use the shorcode to get it displayed. Works pretty well check it out

Amber's plugin
Teleporter
https://wordpress.org/plugins/teleporter/
The Lowdown:
Teleporter is a plugin designed to create smooth transitions between internal links and pages! It does this really cool fade thing. I could see how this could be very irritating if you have a slower computer/internet, or even if you don't like the look of the fading in and out of pages – but for those that like the Star Trek kind of feel, this is really cool!
This is a really very easy to use! You simply install and activate, and it does its thing! No settings or anything – which normally would bother me, but this is a pretty straight forward kind of plugin that doesn't really need settings.
Also, totally free!

To my knowledge, we don't tend to upgrade as soon as any update comes out because there are ALWAYS kinks to be worked out in every upgrade. However, we tend to immediately update with security patches.
- Why don't security patches/updates have the same sort of worries as regular updates on things like WP?
There seems to be a difference between security patches, and security updates. At least that is what it seems like to me….
- What is the difference, if there is any, between security patches and updates?
What are the steps that are needed when a site is no longer needed?
- do you have to delete things before you shut it down?
- how to you go about shutting it down?
