Johns Rant:
This is #37 of 52 51 episodes for 2020. Its Episode 478 and well we are not lost, just doing some wandering in the wilderness for a while. We are now 38 weeks into 2020 and 27 weeks of the Rona, and the narrative has broken down. While they work to keep you scared the numbers are coming in and it is looking so much better.
Although masks are still the rage, and you keep one stuffed in your pocket ready to go, and as dirty as it is going to ge,t it'll be there for you. Just think you can always use it for TP if you get desperate.
The new programming is failing, not as many are doing the upgrades, and the M5M is panicking in its quest to keep the population scared as they flip from the brief focus on climate change back to riots, but have no fear, WP Plugins A to Z is here to lift your soul.
Now is a good time to find yourself an Oasis like the one at The Rogues Tavern someplace where you can check out from the world and unplug.
What you can do to help your soul:
Minimize or eliminate your M5M exposure,
Stop using FaceCrack
Work on your own little part of the world to make it a better place to be.
Inspire others around you to do the same.
Don't worry about things you cannot control.
Stop accepting and doing things that are not be your best interest.
Work in your best interest while at the same time respecting and helping others, the rewards will follow.

ClassicPress Options
ClassicPress is a fast growing fork of WordPress that is starting to come into its own. ClassicPress is focused on Business Websites, runs fast and is looking pretty good. There are a few plugins specifically for ClassicPress and all plugins for WordPress 4.9.9 work well on it. I do believe it has a future.
One thing I am looking forward to in the ClassicPress World is the expansion of the number of ClassicPress specific plugins and their own repository. Currently there are not a lot of ClassicPress specific plugins but I do know it is going to grow and I'll have to expand this segment then. Who knows, it could take over the whole show.
This week for ClassicPress I have:

Protect Pages and Categories with Login
https://wordpress.org/plugins/protect-pages-and-categories-with-login/
The Lowdown:
This is a fantastic free plugin that is simple to use and works great to lock down one, to a few pages, on a website for logged in users only. I have been working on a WooCommerce project and needed to lock one page/product from being viewed unless you are logged in. This plugin does exactly that. Once installed, you just add the short code to the top or bottom of the text on the page and it is locked unless they are logged in.

PLUGIN UPDATE FROM PREVIOUS EPISODES:
I wanted to update on a couple of plugins I have previously talked about.
- Squirrly. I had to deactivate that. It was getting in the way of my actually completing posts and setting things up on the right hand menu option within the post AND page area. Has some great explanations, and the free courses they offered were useful – but not enough for me to keep it going while it was getting in the way. It covered over the date and publish area. I maybe could have reset up my entire page or something – I didn't try., but that seems like a lot of work to go through for a plugin that's supposed to just assist.
- Black Hole for Bad Bots. Dude, they are sending me updates every few days about the bad bots they have destroyed on my site. I personally really like that – it makes me feel like they are actually doing something. But, if receiving updates isn't your thing, I could see how this could be irritating.
Now onto the plugins for THIS week!
Weather Effect – Christmas Santa Snow Falling
https://wordpress.org/plugins/weather-effect/
The Lowdown:
Halloween!! My FAVOURITE time of year!! Don't let the name of this plugin fool ya, it has all the major seasons available.
Description
You will probably be getting at least 1 review of something Halloweeny every week or so until the holiday passes. I personally have an assortment of Halloween decorations that are up all year.
And if ANYONE out there has a plugin they think I should check out, TELL ME! No matter how silly it may seem to be, anything that holds Halloween in esteem is boosted up to awesome in my books.
This plugin is a type of weather effect where you can make it ‘snow'. Halloween has ghosts, bats, moons, pumpkins, webs and witches. And once you turn it on, they all snow down from the top of your page to the bottom.
You are able to personalize it for which items snow, how fast, how many at a time and how many on the page at once.
I could see how this could be irritating… but I think it's so cool!
There IS a premium version, currently on sale for the one time fee of $15. Usually $30 though. So while that USUALLY brings it down a point – IT'S RAINING HALLOWEEN STUFF ON YOUR SCREEN!! FOR FREE!
Honestly, I think that anything for Halloween should just be free, but this one is pretty freaking cool. If only they had skeletons dancing instead…

WP Store Locator
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-store-locator/
The Lowdown:
This is a great store location plugin and the free version seems to have everything you need to set up a directory of stores for your website. It is simple to use aside from having to create a Google API connection. It works quite well, has lots of options for layouts ect.

Interactive Medical Drawing of Human Body
https://wordpress.org/plugins/interactive-medical-drawing-of-human-body/
The Lowdown:
This is a really neat plugin. My daughter is an artist and thinks this is a great idea! As soon as she saw it, she asked for the site with it so that she can use it every day.
Description
This is a great plugin if you are an artist looking to learn to draw a certain part of the human body, or if you are a doctor or nurse in training, or if you are just simply curious as to how the body works and is put together.
Great for art sites, or doctor/nurse sites.
They also have different languages you can translate this into – and best part? This plugin is a total freebie.
How it works, is after you plug it in, you can choose what body parts can be used in the interactive drawing. Once you save changes, you put in the shortcode ‘anatomy' into whatever page or post you are wanting it to be in. And off it goes!
On the page, you click on whatever part of the human body you want to see in the drawing, and it enlarges. It's a really cool plugin!
Highly recommend this plugin, at least go check it out!

Out of the Block: OpenStreetMap
https://wordpress.org/plugins/ootb-openstreetmap/
What he says:
A map block for Gutenberg which uses OpenStreetMap and Leaflet.js. It needs no API keys and works out of the box (or, out of the Block, if you prefer). Benefiting from Gutenberg’s potential, the plugin tries a different take on how to add your locations on the map and rethinks a few things, UX-wise.
Instead of manually adding coordinates for each one of your markers, just click-and-drop them directly on the map. You want to adjust their position? Just drag them wherever you want. And instead of filling-in custom fields to set each marker’s popup content, just open that popup and start writing in it, the Gutenberg way (it supports WYSIWYG editing, with links, images, and all). It even stores the map’s zoom level as you use it so that you don’t have to set it by hand.
Johns Take:
Well little by little I am being forced down this path towards Gutenberg. This plugin appears to work only with a block and as of yet I am not using Gutenberg. But judging from what I see I will give this plugin a top rating.

Corona Virus (COVID-19) – Live Report Visualizations in WordPress
https://wordpress.org/plugins/corona-virus-covid-19-visualizations/
The Lowdown:
Do you need to track the COVID monster? Well, this one aughta do it for ya.
Description
I've seen a lot of COVID plugins pop up since this whole thing started. And this is the first one I've seen that actually looks like it's doing a decent job. It is a total freebie, and claims to get it's information from credible sources, updating every 10 minutes.
I have always been interested in things that do this, update every 10 minutes with information from credible sources; when you start to think about the coding and the mechanics of the program that is doing that, it's really quite impressive!
They even have Canada.
So if this is something you need to keep track of, or your customers need to keep track of it, I definitely recommend it for you. They keep it nicely updated, and all they ask for is donations.
I do wonder who their credible sources are though, since the CDC was discounted as a credible source not too long ago…
UPDATE: So, while working, every time this plugin updates, it shoots you back to the setup page for this plugin. It's starting to drive me nuts while I am checking out various plugins. I had to deactivate it just to work interrupted. I had this at 5 dragons, but I'm bringing it down to 4 because of that constant inturuption to work. It only does this every time the page refreshes – but that in and of itself is irritating as heck. Good if you just make a post and leave your page – but really frustrating if you are regularly bouncing around your site. I would recommend, if you need to have this for whatever reason, deactivating it for the duration of your work.
